Kent Jesse is a litigator and home grown Albertan, born and raised in Medicine Hat. As a teenager his jobs included pumping gas, loading perforating guns with detonating cord and explosives (thanks Dad), testing rural natural gas lines for leaks, and building gas meter sets. During childhood holidays, he spent time at the family cabin, where his favourite things included water activities, exploring through the bush, and family gatherings. During those holidays, having many relatives in the area who were farmers, his holidays on occasion turned into a workday, where he ploughed summer fallow, drove a grain truck to the elevator (age 13, considered acceptable at the place and time – again, thanks Dad), and was at least some help milking Holsteins. He won a 4-H trophy showing off a milking cow in Estevan, SK.

Kent attended the University of Calgary and obtained a degree in Political Science and Philosophy, and then attended the University of Victoria where he earned his law degree. He figured it was time to transition from shovel and tractor to pen and paper, so he became an office worker. It worked out well, but to be fair, he still likes shovels and tractors.

Kent eagerly joined private practice in Calgary and found a knack advocating for his clients, which he’s been doing for over 20 years. His cases tend to be contractual in nature, but he is also well versed in tort law and some specific regulatory matters. Kent has acted as lead counsel and has reached successful outcomes on substantial and complex matters in the Court of Queens’ Bench, Court of Appeal and the Federal Court, that have included dozens of witnesses over several weeks, including experts with specialized knowledge.

He has had litigation experience in the many industries which form the backbone of Calgary: Construction, Engineering, Agriculture, Petroleum, Real Estate, Technology, Financial Services, and others.

Kent has led legal teams in cases that involve remedies where clients need resolution involving international elements where he has coordinated with foreign jurisdictions, including the US, the EU, China and Japan, among others. He has represented clients within Canada who were based from every continent, excepting Africa and Australia (at least so far).

When time is tight and the need for a remedy is immediate, Kent has successfully obtained court injunctions within 24 hours of being instructed. He has also managed to advance cases all the way from filing a Statement of Claim in the Court of Queen’s Bench to trial, where the trial commenced within less than one year from the first filing.
