More than anything, Paul Reid is a dedicated advocate, and strives to understand issues from the perspective of the parties he represents. He takes time to invest in his clients and makes it a priority to understand both their personalities and goals. Paul makes it a point of practice to truly engage with the people and corporations he assists.

Prior to attending law school, Paul attended St. Francis Xavier University where he graduated with First Class Honours. His interest in law began shortly thereafter, when he worked for a national immigration law firm. While attending the University of Calgary for his Juris Doctor degree, Paul was a president of the Business Law Association, and a volunteer with Pro Bono Students Canada. Despite having hands of stone and a zero-percent chance of hitting the net with his slap-shot, Paul was appointed as a Captain of the Faculty of Law’s Hockey Team. Paul continues to involve himself in the growth of the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Law, particularly as a volunteer with Student Legal Assistance.

Paul’s academic understanding of the law was fostered during the consecutive summers he worked as a research assistant in the Canadian Institute of Resource Law, where he engaged in research projects pertaining to natural resource and environmental law, administrative regimes, and international regulatory governance. During his tenure, he contributed to the article that won the 2018 Willoughby Prize, which is awarded yearly to an article of outstanding merit published in the Journal of Energy and Natural Resources Law.

Paul is primarily focused on civil and regulatory litigation. His love of advocacy crystallized in law school, when he represented the University of Calgary in the Davies’ Annual Corporate/Securities Law Moot. Paul has appeared before the Alberta Court of Appeal, Court of Queen’s Bench, Provincial Court of Alberta and Federal Court of Canada, as well as regulatory and administrative tribunals in Alberta.

In his free time, Paul tries to wrap his mind around the concept of enjoying golf, despite the tremendous roadblocks that he experiences playing the game. He also enjoys hockey, basketball, and getting out to the mountains for snowboarding trips. Paul has a deep love of film and music, and always finds time to take in Alberta’s tremendous arts scene, regardless of the fact that some of his favourite shows were seen in the rival setting of Edmonton.
